Initial environmental examination

Initial Environmental Examinations (IEE) is the primary stage in the Environmental Assessment of a project. It describes the environmental condition of a project, including potential impact, formulation of mitigation measures, and preparation of institutional requirements for environmental monitoring. IEE reports have four basic objectives; (i) asses relevant potential impacts and risks associated with the proposed project, (ii) assess the compliance with environmental safeguard requirements and applicable environmental laws, (iii) incorporate mitigation measures in the project design, (Iv) preparation of environmental management and monitoring plan.

Environmental impact assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a tool used to assess the significant effects of a project or development proposal on the environment. EIAs make sure that project decision makers think about the likely effects on the environment at the earliest possible time and aim to avoid, reduce or offset those effects. This ensures that proposals are understood properly before decisions are made. The components of environmental impact assessment include Water Environment, Biological Environment, Land Environment, Air Environment, Noise Environment, Socio-economic and Health Environment, EIA Risk Assessment, and Environment Management Plan.

Environmental monitoring Report

Environmental Monitoring (EM) is to monitor the performance of a project and the effectiveness of mitigation measures. The objectives of carrying out the EM&A include the following: To provide a database against which short or long term environmental impacts of the project can be determined; To provide an early indication should any of the environmental control measures or practices fail to achieve the acceptable standards; To monitor the performance of the project and the effectiveness of mitigation measures; To verify the environmental impact predicted in the EIA studies. To determine compliance with regulatory requirements, standards and government policies. To take remedial action if unexpected problems or unacceptable impacts arise. To provide data to enable an environmental audit.
